There are several types of cat water fountains that you can purchase, such as plastic, ceramic, and stainless steel.
They all vary in prices, so do they vary in technicality or function? Does one work better than the other since one is more expensive than the other?
In this article, we will explain the purposes and uses of each type and what circumstances you should get them in.
Which is which?
First of all, we will show you which type is what.
- Ceramic – This type is what you usually see with more expensive cat water fountains. It’s a glass-type of material, so it will break a lot easier if you drop it compared to plastic and stainless steel. However, the quality is a bit better with ceramic products compared to plastic and stainless steel which you can probably tell from the price.
- Stainless Steel – This type is a bit less than ceramic, but all depends on how much machinery and features the water fountain comes with. If there are a ton of features and the tank is big, then the stainless steel might be better than the ceramic, as it will take longer to rust and won’t break as easily.
- Plastic – This type is the cheapest and will most likely not come with any features to make your water fountain experience enjoyable. Plastic is usually what comes out of normal cat water bowls, so it isn’t really the choice of material for a cat water fountain, but a low-end bowl.
Which is better?
You now know what each material does and costs, so now you are ready to know which is better.
Ultimately, ceramic is better but stainless steel can beat ceramic in certain cases. If we’re going based off of features without factoring in the price, ceramic can definitely beat the rest, but if we’re going for technicality and durability, then stainless steel might be better. If you’re going to have a child or minor be replacing the water in the fountain, then stainless steel might be much better than ceramic, because ceramic breaks easier and is much more expensive to replace.
